Your engagement session!
We are so incredibly excited for your engagement session! We truly believe they are a VITAL part of the entire wedding planning process. During your engagement session, you’ll get the chance to get to know us, experience how we shoot, how we direct, and how we handle lighting. The experience gained will also have a HUGE impact on your wedding day, aiding flow and helping keep you comfortable. We will arrive on your wedding day already knowing how you two interact, your ideal poses, and how best to capture the real you! What we will learn about you during the session is just as valuable as what you will learn about us. You’ll feel like such a pro on your big day thanks to the great practice you had during your engagement session!

Where should I have my session?
We have a list of wonderful locations that you can look through, but don’t let that limit you! We LOVE when couples pick a location that is special or sentimental to them in some way. As long as the light is great, we can make any location look awesome! We will do all the necessary research to make sure engagement shoots are allowed at a location you choose and report back to you if there are any permits or special requirements before we confirm your booking. |
Can I we do a location not on your list?
Yes! We LOVE when couples pick a location that is special or sentimental to them in some way. As long as the light is great, we can make any location look awesome! We will do all the necessary research to make sure engagement shoots are allowed at a location you choose and report back to you if there are any permits or special requirements before we confirm your booking. |
Do you provide any props?
Yes! Feel free to check them out here! They are free to use unless specified otherwise. While the props are fun, we recommend limiting yourself to 2-3, otherwise ALLLLL your photos are of props and it takes away from you two! |
What time will my session take place?
Timing really depends on the location and the time of year! We LOVE to shoot during the “golden hour” the last 2 hours before sunset. However if a location is particularly crowded during early evening, we may recommend a sunrise session instead. |
When should I have my session?
Your session can be scheduled anytime before your wedding day! We typically suggest booking it at least 6-12 months before you tie the knot. |
How many outfits can I wear?
Each session type has a certain number of outfits that are permitted. A general rule of thumb is the more outfits, the less images you will get because time changing clothes is time not spent taking photos of you. |
Be real + comfortable!
Planning to shoot in a rugged terrain (loose soil, gravel, sand, hiking involved)? Wear comfy shoes! If you want to wear fancier shoes for the actual photos, just bring a pair of sandals for walking from spot to spot. But please make sure your shoes are easy to change quickly, otherwise we will spend too much time adjusting wardrobe and you will get less photos. For the beach, we always recommend going barefoot! |
Sparkle, Sparkle!!!
Clean that ring! We will definitely take some macro shots, so make sure it is ready for a close up! Also, it’s not a bad idea to get a manicure. Your new bling will be the star in these pictures. |
Go Glam!
This one is for the ladies! This is a great time to have a trial with your wedding day makeup artist. It’s true that a little more dramatic makeup and hair is often needed in photographs. Of course you still want to look like YOU, so a general rule is to go a tad more dramatic than you do when you dress up for a fancy occasion. Plan to have your hair and makeup done at least an HOUR before you plan to leave. |
Matchy Matchy
We recommend you avoid matching outfits. You should pick outfits and accessories that coordinate and contrast instead! Light colors go well with other light colors, and you can add contrast by pairing a light shirt with dark pants, tying it all together with accessories that include a color your partner is wearing. |
Bold is best!
You already know how much we love color! Feel free to express yourself through your clothes and allow your outfit to reflect your personal style. |
Location, Location, Location.
In addition to considering how your outfit colors compliment your partner, consider how what you wear will compliment the scenery around you too! You want to pop! So for example, don't wear green, busy patterns someplace where there will be lots of leaves and trees- you want to stand out, not blend in or look too busy. |
Patterns are great...
most of the time! Just make sure you are not mixing and matching patterns between you and your partner. Stay away from very small, intricate or busy patterns unless your location has lots of blank spaces like walls or sky + ocean. For nature locations, it’s best to wear a large pattern print or go for solids. And definitely just say no to logos and text! |
Two outfits?
If your session type allows for two outfits, we recommend having one outfit that is dressy and one more casual. That way, you can have two different looks! Keep in mind some locations are more rustic than others so it may be difficult to change. In that case, we suggest sticking to just one outfit. |
Empty those pockets!!!!
You probably don’t want to have key chains, wallets or phones showing through your pockets (looking at you, gents!) ;) |
Bringing your pup?
YAY! Pretty please bring a friend who can help babysit your fur babe when they aren’t in photos. Tim can also step in to handle doggie duty if you can’t find anyone to assist, but that means he can’t take as many photos! Remember to also check with us that your chosen location is dog friendly. |
Please be on time!
The single biggest snag we run into at engagement sessions is a couple running late, and feeling super stressed about it. It can make it hard to feel relaxed and lovey-dovey in photos the moment you arrive. Plan extra time for traffic, and to arrive early if you can! You being more relaxed at the start of your session leads for a more relaxed you in photos. |
Sunset + Timing
Also remember, the sun is only out for so long! The later you arrive, the less time we have to shoot. Note that our contract states that if you are more than 30 minutes late and don’t reach out to let us know, your session is automatically cancelled and will need to be rescheduled. |
Final Advice...
...have FUN! Being engaged is an incredibly fun and short period of the entirety of your (future married) lives together. Focus on being yourself. Don’t try and be someone else’s Pinterest board. Dress up, but not so much that you feel uncomfortable. Hang out and interact with each other the way you normally do. Actually, we want you to focus on each other SO MUCH MORE than you normally do! Fix your eyes on your love, and focus on all the reasons why you adore them. Goof around, make silly faces, play and laugh!

You are not alone! However we want to reassure you that you are more photogenic than you think!
We are constantly surprising couples by discovering their hidden modeling skills – our couples frequently say, “that wasn’t as bad as I expected! It was actually really fun!” Boom! Mission accomplished. When our couples tell us that taking pictures is fun, we know we’ve done a good job. Your photos are supposed to be fun and relaxed, not forced or awkward! As you prepare for your session, there are a few things that you can do to get ready. I highly recommend sitting down together and browsing through some of our other recent sessions. This will allow you both to align your expectations and get a preview of what your day will be like. Taking photos can be an awkward thing to do, but it really helps to just lean into the awkward. Laugh about it! Talk about it! And then before you know it, you’ll be having a total blast. Remember to have patience with one another and give each other grace. We want to also encourage you that we will be guiding you every step along the way, we won’t just stand back and snap away. We will prompt you on how to interact with each other and direct you on what to do with your hands and body, chit chat with you, and say inappropriate things to get you to giggle. Our ultimate goal is to help you feel like a natural!
